Jethro Tull - Aqualung
Year 1971 For a lot of people this is
probably the album they first heard from the band. The 3 earlier albums had
established a massive following but Aqualung achieved Superstar status for
the boys.
The controversy over the apparent Religious comment on side 2 (yes vinyl had
2 sides!!) ensured the album was talked about and listened to extensively.
But 'Cheap Day Return' and 'Slipstream' stands out as one of the finest moments---
quiet, short and beautiful sat between power cords and aggression they have
to be two of the most beautiful pieces from the band. I can still sing all
the lyrics from my head after 30 years. 'On Preston platform do your soft
shoe shuffle dance, brush away the cigarette ash
' ah happy
days!
