Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick

The follow up to Aqualung stunned many a fan. A continuous piece of music, but written by a 12 year old boy. Some naively believed this was just a publicity stunt or joke by the band but after 19 years I can reveal that I was Gerald Bostock. Oh OK I wasn’t It was brilliant written by the now blossoming Ian Anderson. His writing abilities seemed to know no limits. Classic Tull humour, key changes and tempo jumps. Still valid after 29 years. And for collectors an added advantage that they were collecting an old newspaper at the same time. How many collections of newspapers started with Thick as A Brick I wonder.

The album was released the day I saw them perform it live at London's Royal Albert Hall. In my hands at 2.pm listen to 3 times before leaving home for the gig. It felt as if the band and I were the only ones who knew it. The audience were hushed for the full 45 minutes. A magical moment. And even on the last tour the band still managed to make reference to the Hare and his spectacles. !!
